Ho provato per sedici anni a fare la pianista per capirlo. . Penso spesso alle fotografie non scattate, possibili testimonianze di momenti che avrebbero per sempre cambiato il corso delle cose. Nelle mie immagini ogni storia è sempre e ancora possible pechè racchiudono ogni possibile punto di vista. I often wonder what Wilhelm Kempff observes during the execution of the third movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Op.31 No.2, when he takes his eyes off the keyboard and the score to direct them far from the end of the piano. I have been trying for sixteen years to become a pianist to understand it. . I often think of untaken photographs, possible witnesses of moments that would have forever changed the course of things. Ai Colonos (UD)-IT Nato dall’invito dell’Associazione Culturale Colonos per il progetto A Brene Vierte, incentrato sul dialogo tra tradizione e contemporaneità, Close to where we are è un’opera site-specific realizzata nell'arco di una sola giornata con materiali di riuso messi a disposizione in loco. L'installazione prende forma attraverso un’azione integrale di svuotamento e pulizia di una porcilaia del 1930, situata nella corte rurale sede dell’Associazione, rimasta a lungo in stato di abbandono e sommersa da strati di detriti accumulati nel tempo. Questa sottrazione dell'inutile si propone come un gesto di cura e strumento di conoscenza: significa riportare lo spazio alla sua originaria autenticità e comprenderne la storia per restituirgli piena dignità nel presente. All'interno di questo volume liberato ho inserito tendaggi plissettati in cellophane trasparente che sollecitano lo sguardo a ripercorrere l'ambiente rivalendone la natura sospesa tra una temporalità lontana e la dimensione intima del presente. In un contesto tanto rustico, la presenza quasi leziosa e spavalda di questi velari rispecchia l'attitudine contemporanea ad applicare filtri visivi alle immagini. L’intervento risiede dunque in questo svelamento: un'esortazione a sostare e a compiere un vero e proprio atto di visita. Etimologicamente, visitare - dal latino visere, frequentativo di videre - non significa infatti un semplice passaggio occasionale, ma un andare a vedere con intenzione, frequenza e profonda attenzione. Fare visita a questo luogo diventa così un gesto generoso, in cui l'osservatore torna a guardare con cura ciò che era stato dimenticato, riattivando lo spazio attraverso la propria presenza e il proprio pensiero. Originating from an invitation by the Colonos Cultural Association for the ‘A Brene Vierte’ project centered on the dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, ‘Close to where we are’ is a site-specific artwork created over the course of a single day using reused materials provided on site. The installation takes shape through a complete process of clearing and cleaning a 1930s pigsty situated in the rural courtyard of the Association’s premises, which had long been left derelict and submerged beneath layers of debris accumulated over time. This subtraction of the superfluous serves as a gesture of care and a tool of knowledge: it means restoring the space to its original authenticity and understanding its history in order to grant it full dignity in the present. Within this liberated volume, I have introduced pleated drapes of transparent cellophane that encourage the gaze to re-traverse the environment, revealing a nature suspended between a distant temporality and the intimate dimension of the present. In such a rustic setting, the almost affected and audacious presence of these drapes reflects the contemporary habit of applying visual filters to images. The artwork thus resides in this unveiling: an exhortation to linger and perform a true act of visiting. Etymologically, to visit - from the Latin ‘visere’, a frequentative of ‘videre’ - does not signify a mere casual passing, but rather to go and see with intention, frequency, and deep attentiveness. Scuola Piccola Zattere, Venezia (VE) - IT Concepito per il simposio Museum as Carrier Bag: pratiche per un museo vivente curato da Lisa Andreani, Crossings trasforma lo spazio espositivo in un dispositivo semiotico a tutto campo, dove pavimento e pareti smettono di essere semplici superfici di supporto per diventare parte attiva di un organismo narrativo in divenire. L'installazione si dispiega come un sistema di segni interdipendenti che sospende e fonde più registri conoscitivi, abitando una zona di confine tra pianta architettonica, mappa mentale, palazzo della memoria e taccuino di appunti. Se il pavimento invita a una lettura tattile e percettiva, trasformando la camminata in un atto interpretativo, le pareti ne diventano il riflesso speculare e concettuale. I disegni non sono decorazioni, ma volumi e spazi da riempire, che attendono di essere attivati dai pensieri, dalle parole e dai movimenti di chi attraversa l'ambiente. Le videoproiezioni, infine, immettono un ulteriore strato di temporalità e flusso, e raccontano un tempo precedente a quello installativo: quello del pensiero ideativo, del ragionamento, degli interrogativi, delle possibili connessioni. Un tempo anticipatore, permeato dal confronto con la curatrice e dalle assonanze tra le nostre rispettive ricerche. L'attraversamento diventa così un atto interpretativo: il visitatore attiva un percorso di consapevolezza a più livelli. Il primo è percettivo-corporeo: segni, soglie, interruzioni, continuità. Il secondo è cognitivo-mnestico: ogni elemento visivo innesca ricordi e relazioni. Il terzo è meta-spaziale: la consapevolezza che lo spazio è una costruzione mentale, e che l'installazione ne è il diagramma vivente, un palazzo della memoria contemporaneo dove progetto e ricordo, ordine e pensiero in divenire coesistono in equilibrio instabile. Crossings invita a una deriva lenta e partecipata, dove ogni sguardo, ogni passo, ogni pausa contribuisce a completare il senso dell'opera, in un labirinto di significati che si svela solo attraverso l'esperienza diretta. Crossings has been conceived for the symposium Museum as Carrier Bag: Practices for a Living Museum, curated by Lisa Andreani. The installation transforms the exhibition space into an all-encompassing semiotic device, where floor and walls cease to be mere supporting surfaces and become an active part of a narrative organism in the making. The work unfolds as a system of interdependent signs that suspends and blends multiple registers of knowledge, inhabiting a border zone between architectural plan, mental map, memory palace, and sketchbook page. If the floor invites a tactile and perceptual reading, turning walking into an interpretive act, the walls become its speculative and conceptual mirror. The drawings are not decorations but volumes, fields, and spaces to be filled, waiting to be activated by the thoughts, words, lived experiences, and movements of those who walk through the environment. The video projections, finally, introduce an additional layer of temporality and flow, and speak of a time that precedes the installation: that of ideational thought, of reasoning, of questions, of possible connections — an anticipatory time, permeated by the dialogue with the curator and the resonances between our respective research practices. Traversing the space thus becomes an interpretive act: the visitor does not simply move through it but progressively activates a multi-layered journey of awareness. The first level is perceptual-corporeal: moving through the space, one encounters signs, thresholds, interruptions, material continuities. The second is cognitive-mnestic: each visual element can trigger a memory, a connection, a mental note. The third is reflective and meta-spatial: the awareness that space itself is a mental construction, and that the entire installation is its living diagram — a contemporary memory palace where inside and outside, project and recollection, geometric order and thought-in-process coexist in an unstable equilibrium.
